Our Under14 Division 1 Girls team played their 4th league game away to Oldcastle on Monday night.
A dramatic game, with hot & thunderous conditions for the 14 strong team members who made the trek to Oldcastle.
Royal Gaels took an early lead and despite a fighting performance from Oldcastle the home team didn’t manage to bridge the gap.
Captain Olivia Quinn started with inspiring words – which spurred the team on – this was a high scoring game with scores coming from 8 of the 14 players.
The team welcomed new player Clair McCarrick, who had a strong performance in her first game with this team. With 4 girls away, the game began with 14 a-side and finished with 12 a-side. The management team made frequent changes to respond to the changing conditions on the pitch. Backs Clair McCarrick, Niamh Summerville, Joy Osas, Emma Griffin & Ronnique Kato showed that they can adapt and did a great job up the front in the 3rd quarter. Equally, forwards Orlaith McEntee, Katelyn Robinson, Olivia Quinn, Tara Glennon and Georgia Muldoon made a smooth transition into defence when called upon. Goalie Caitlin Summerville was a safe pair of hands as always. Grace Summerville, Grainne McEnroe & Siun Hartigan did a great job in mid-field, having to adapt and change as the play required.
This team has worked hard on using both feet and hands and it really paid off.
A special word of best wishes to Orlaith & Siun who came off injured in the second half. Best wishes also to Mia Summerville who picked up an injury at training and was unable to play. Most dedicated mascot award still remains with Aoife Murphy who will soon be donning the Bainisteoir bib with her experience to date.
A convincing win for Royal Gaels – our next game is against Dunboyne on Saturday 17th @ 12pm.
