Men’s A FL Division 1B (Round 5)

Trim 3-10 (19),   Dunshaughlin 0-13

Dunshaughlin travelled to Trim to take on the Leinster and Meath 2021 Intermediate champions. Only nine of the fifteen players Dunshaughlin players who started the previous week against Seneschalstown lined out for the top of the table clash against the Boyne siders. As Meath were knocked out of the Under 20 championship five days earlier, Dunshaughlin welcomed back their five representatives for this fixture. Trim led from start to finish.

Luke Mitchell scored the first point of the game for Dunshaughlin in the 9th minute after the hosts had got off to a flyer scoring 1-2. The goal coming in the 6th minute, just after the Trim No. 8 had received a Black Card. Trim got two further points and led 1-4 to 0-1 before Mitchell converted a free for Dunshaughlin in the 15th minute. Dunshaughlin put over another three unanswered points, Mitchell (2) and Ruairi Kinsella to leave two points between the teams after 25 minutes, 1-4 to 0-5. Trim scored two more points and pulled four ahead again before Niall Byrne scored a point for Dunshaughlin on the stroke of half time. Trim 1-6, Dunshaughlin 0-6.

Trim went six points ahead in the 34th minute when Ciaran Cuafield scored a rasping goal. Dunshaughlin didn’t give up with Adam Kealy scoring a point from the resultant kickout, followed five minutes later by an Aaron Murphy point, 2-6 to 0-8. Unfortunately for Dunshaughlin that was the closest they were to get for the rest of the game as in the 43rd minute it was Trim who put the final nail in in the coffin with their third goal to lead by seven points. Trim now just had to see out the game and frustrated Dunshaughlin holding onto possession and breaking down any dangerous looking attacks by fouling outside their 45.       John McDonagh did manage to score a free from close in, to reduce it to six in the 47th minute. Both teams scored four points a piece in the final 10 minutes with Aaron Murphy and Ben Duggan getting two apiece. Dunshaughlin used their full compliment of subs allowed
