Royal Gaels v Gaeil Colmcille
Div 4 League – Round 4 2nd July 2021
Final score
Gaeil Colmcilles 1-09
Dunshaughlin Royal Gaels 2-15
The black and amber side travelled to Grangegodden for the fourth game in the league, with the teams sitting second and fourth place respectively on the league table it was all to play for.
Tara Ryan, returning from a cruciate injury got her name on the scoreboard with a lovely point in the opening minutes of the game, two further points from Ciara Galvin and Aisling Griffin saw the Dunshaughlin girls lead by 3 points to 1 at the water break. Gaeil Colmcille responded well with three unanswered points before Maeve Scanlon slotted the ball over the bar for the visitors. The home side rattled the net to raise the green flag before substitute Ciara Gorman responded with two points, one from the free. Great defending from the Sonia Leonard, and Eimear Traynor kept the home side at bay and only a single point divided the teams at half-time. It was anyone’s game.
A tightly marked Gorman manage to slip her marker to put the ball over the bar for the opening score of the second half. Captain, Emma Kennedy added her name to the scoreboard with a cracking shot to the back of the net. The sides traded points in the third quarter before a goal and a point from the boot of Maeve Scanlon helped open a gap between the teams seeing the Dunshaughlin team ahead by 2-11 to 1-09 going into the water break.
Abbie Blake was unlucky not to get her name on the scoreboard but supplied some great ball to Niamh McEntee and Gorman who scored two points each being the only scores in the last quarter. With solid performances from Mary McDonagh, Kelly O’Dwyer, Roisin Bruce and Leah Sheridan, all in all it was a great team performance by the Dunshaughlin girls who’s work rate all over the pitch was excellent.
