Dunshaughlin & Royal Gaels v Dee Rangers

7th March 2025 Drumcondrath.

Full Time score:

Dunshaughlin & Royal Gaels 3-06

Dee Rangers 0-08

The Dunshaughlin & Royal Gaels Division 1 team kicked off their league season with an away game to Dee Rangers on Friday night. This game promised to be a tough one as both teams have shared the Division one title for the past three years. Due to bad weather and unplayable pitches, our first round match against Oldcastle was deferred so this was to be our Division 1 team’s first competitive game of the year.

On a perfect night for football, with not a breeze in Drumcondrath, our @minnisdevelopmentsltd sponsored side, this time wearing their amber kit were led out onto the pitch by Captain Michelle O’Hare.

Within a minute, the Gaels had shown their intent when Ciara Gorman slotted the first score of the game over the bar. Rachael Doonan in the centre of the field was inspirational in her first game back, she got her name on the scoreboard picking up a ball in the opposition half and storming down the pitch to pop over a beautifully taken point. Niamh McEntee and Petra Reilly added two further points to the black and amber tally. It was a game of high intensity, some great defending from Laura Quinn, Keva Mc Tigue and Sarah Duffy for the visiting side meant it was the 17th minute before Dee Rangers managed to record their first score.

The Moyles’ sisters, Rebecca Considine, Ciara Galvin and Leah Sheridan worked really well together in this fast paced game sending the Gaels into the break 0-02 up.

Half Time score:

Dunshaughlin & Royal Gaels 0-04

Dee Rangers 0-02

The second half saw a number of subs coming on for Dunshaughlin, with the introduction of Laura Murray for Ciara Galvin & Tara Glennon for Katelyn Robinson.

Within a minute of the restart a Petra Reilly 45m free which saw four of the Royal Gaels’ players link up with some slick passing resulted in Gormo finding the back of the net.

Further fresh legs were introduced for the Gaels with Caitlin O’Neill replacing Sheridan and Niamh and Grace Summerville replacing Considine and Reilly respectively. Elena Kennedy’s work rate paid off as she added her name to the score sheet with a deftly taken point giving the visitors a six point margin.

Dee Rangers tagged on two points which were quickly countered when, following a series of pinpoint passes by the newly introduced subs, Tara Glennon found herself in

the perfect position to pounce on a rebound off the post to raise a second green flag for the Gaels.

Laura Bourke then entered the fray in place of Ciara Gorman. The North Meath side added a further two scores bringing their tally to six points, however once again Royal Gaels pressed on and Ella Moyles found the back of the net with a long lobbing shot. Two further points from Dee Rangers and a pointed free from Murray brought an end to the scoring in this hugely entertaining game.
